Happy New Year

  • by

Today is the last day of the year that shall go unnamed. It has been a hard year for many. However, there were some positives. Many projects that had been delayed or simply forgotten, have been finished. Some (a little) of the garage has been cleaned out and organized. I finally had the time to finish my book. Zoom, while a poor substitute for personal contact, has been an unexpected opportunity to reconnect with friends and family who are far away. And, Amber, the new addition to our family, is adjusting to snow and cold after being rescued from south Texas, adding some canine excitement to life. Still, it has been a difficult year. Now, in its waning hours, as twilight descends on a gray, overcast sky, this dreary year finds it difficult to share even a brief moment of brightness.

I must look forward to 2021. It will likely start out as difficult as its predecessor and those who want to cling to it will find it difficult to let go. The pandemic will linger. Behavior of some humans will continue to be mean-spirited. Vaccines will not be distributed fast enough. Pandora’s box was opened during the past twelve months and all the evils of the world were unleashed. There is only one thing left in the box to unleash. HOPE.
