A Different Holiday Time

  • by

What a strange year this has been. I can’t wait until 2020 is over and 2021 begins. I find it difficult to believe that we are only in month ten of the epidemic in the US. This has been a year of anxiety, pain, loneliness, and economic hardship for many. I have tended to turn inward, imagining in my mind’s eye, more pleasant times in beautiful places. That, of course, means for me to be outside. Our new dog, of one month, is helping me cope by encouraging frequent walks, even at midnight and even in -5 degree temperature. She is a shepherd mix, about three years old, rescued from south Texas in early November. She joined our family just before Thanksgiving. Her first ever snow was an exciting adventure, though colder than she expected. She is excited to go for walks, each one a bit longer than the previous one as she grows more used to cold. She enjoys our walk near midnight, when the stars and moon are brightest and owls and coyotes are in best voice. She forces me to get out, even when the weather is not the best. Good girl, Amber.
