We, in Minnesota, are in the true depths of winter. The forecast for tomorrow morning is -14 Fahrenheit (-25.6 C). Temperatures have been in the negative range for a week and we expect at least another eight days below zero. For many areas of the country, this weather would be a calamity, but for Minnesota, it is business as usual. Our recent family addition, Amber, the rescue dog from Laredo, Texas is now fully at home and loves to eat snow. She is excited by the amount of wildlife activity. Yes, the deer interest her, but she is really excited to watch squirrels. When she is not outside, Amber lays by the patio door watching birds and squirrels at the heated birdbath—her version of squirrel-a-vision. The frost in the birdbath is growing, with some frost flowers approaching 3/8ths inch in length. Though extremely delicate, falling with the slightest breeze, the fragile ice crystals do not seem disturbed by clumsy squirrels and splashing doves
